Winter record broken by almost 6°C: 25.6°C in Beijing
Temperatures in Beijing reached some 25.6°C on Sunday beating by almost 6°C the previous winter record high prior to this year of 19.8°C in February 1996.
This also beat the record of the earliest 25°C day at Beijing on record, beating the previous earliest of March 18 2009 which was coincidentally the last time that I had my birthday in the year of the Ox (2021 is also the year of the Ox and March 18 it my birthday).
This record warmth came just after parts of the US saw record cold and a crisis.
Generally while it is record cold at one part of the world, it would be record heat at another part of the world.
This is because the heat has to go somewhere, the atmosphere redistributes it to a different part of the world, it gets absorbed into the oceans or radiated out into outer space.
The record cold in Texas and snow in the Gulf of Mexico to the 946 hPa low near Japan to the winter record high being broken by almost 6°C in Beijing, being broken by 3°C in Hamburg seems to suggest a wavy jet stream, lots of energy being redistributed around.
