48.9°C in Sydney's West, record broken
The record high for all months at Penrith in Sydney's West was broken today as temperatures reached 48.9°C exceeding the previous record set only in 2018, January 7 2018 of 47.37°C.
This record high today occurred despite some ash cloud and pyrocumulus cloud around the area.
It was also the highest temperature within the Sydney Metropolitan Area on record exceeding the previous record of 47.8°C set in January 1939 at the old Richmond station.
