991.5 hPa at Rottnest Island, likely Perth's lowest February MSLP since 1915 or 1937
Mean Sea Level Pressure (MSLP) dipped to some 991.5 hPa on Sunday afternoon at Rottnest Island as the subtropical low passed nearby.
The MSLP dipped to some 993.5 hPa at Perth Metro, liekly Perth's lowest in February since February 11 1937 or February 26 1915.
In the early hours of February 11 1937, MSLP had dipped to around 993-994 hPa, it is not exactly clear whether it dipped below Sunday's readings given that barometer observations were then taken at regular intervals by manual observers and there were no data loggers like today.
Perth's lowest February MSLP on record was 986.5 hPa on February 26 1915 as a tropical cyclone moved down the west coast.
Winds of around 85 km/h were recorded at the Perth Observatory.
The cyclone was then off the west coast and had travelled at some 80 km/h.
At the time, people didn't know that the storm was a tropical cyclone and were taken by surprise.
