69.8°C and 128 km/h wind gusts In NSW town:
On Saturday, the Australian Bureau of Meteorology(BOM) automatic weather station at the New South Wales town of Cabramurra recorded temperatures reaching 69.8°C at 4:28 PM with wind gusts having reached 128 km/h at 4:22 PM.
It appears that the town was engulfed in a firestorm as per radar and satellite images and the high temperatures were a result of bushfire heat.
"The situation appears to be that an intense pyrocumulonimbus cloud formed above an intense fire to the east of Cabramurra during the afternoon," the Australian Bureau of Meteorology(BOM) said in a statement explaining the temperature spike.
