Western Australia experiences warmest winter on record
Western Australia had experienced its warmest winter on record with the mean maximum temperature being 2.38°C above the 1961-1990 average.
Also, West Roebuck (about 10km east of Broome Airport) recorded Australia's highest winter temperature on record of 41.2 °C on 23 August, a day after Yampi Sound recorded the country's first 40 °C ( 40.7 °C on 22 August) day on record.Along with 40.1 °C at West Roebuck on the 27th, the country experienced three 40 °C days in winter within a week.
Marble Bar exceeded it's previous winter record of 38.0°C set on August 25 2017 on 6 consecutive days between the 24th and 29th; Marble Bar had not recorded a single 38 °C in winter prior to 2017, with records going back to 1901.
Port Hedland Airport had 7 out of 9 days exceeding its previous winter record 36.8 °C between the 23rd and 31st; the maximum temperature on the 29th (39.9 °C ) was 3.1 °C higher than the old record.
