Around 1100mm of rain at New South Wales station: Wettest month on record by a margin
March 24 2021:
The New South Wales station of Mount Seaview has already seen around 1100 mm of rain so far this month breaking the previous record wettest month for all months, not just March, by a margin.
Records are from 1949.
This is significantly more rain than Mumbai in India receives on average during the wettest month of July of around 710 mm or Kota Bharu in Malaysia during the wettest month of November, around 660 mm.
Hurricane Katrina's highest rainfall totals were only around 500 mm so was it with Severe Tropical Cyclone Yasi.
Mount Seaview is located to the east of higher terrain, as a result can receive high amounts of rainfall due to orographic lifting.
