Coldest on record since 1859: Sydney 10.3°C maximum
June 10 2021:
Sydney felt more like a European city during winter today.
The maximum temperature at the Sydney-Observatory Hill site was only 10.3°C which was the coldest day on record this early in the year with records going all the way back to 1859 and beating the record of 10.8°C set on June 7 1887.
Temperatures in the western suburbs of Sydney were only around 7°C just past noon, that is near sea level. The maximum temperature for the day near sea level over the western suburbs was only around 8°C.
Frost occurred in the early morning despite cloud cover and a low pressure system. Temperatures at Campbelltown dipped to -0.3°C. This is unusual, as typically frost occurs under a high pressure ridge with clear skies.
