Perth sees wettest June day in 37 years
June 5 2023
Several stations in Perth saw the wettest June day on record with more than 70mm having fallen at several official stations in the 24 hours to 9 AM today and both radar derived rainfall accumulation estimates and personal weather stations showing isolated daily falls in excess of 100 mm. It was the wettest June day on record at the official Mt Lawley site and the wettest June day since 1986 at the official Perth Metro station.
37.2mm of rain fell in 1 hour to 9 PM at the Mt Lawley site which according to intensity-frequency-duration (IFD) analysis is about once in every 40 year hourly rainfall on average.
The significant rainfall accumulations were due the "training" of thunderstorms and heavy showers over the region with the passage of a front interacting with tropical moisture.
