Perth on track to see longest December hot spell on record by a large margin
Perth is on track to the longest December hot spell on record by a large margin with records going all the way back to 1897 (more than a 100 years) where a hot spell is defined as consisting of consecutive days with temperatures at or above 30.0°C.
It would likely be the longest December hot spell by a relatively large margin, significantly exceeding the record of 9 consecutive days in December 2002. It would be 14 consecutive days according to the ECMWF ensemble mean, simply because December ends on the 31st.
While Perth does see hot weather in December there are typically breaks of cooler weather with strong sea breezes in between the hot days.
