Earliest monsoon onset on record over many parts of India
The Indian southwest monsoon has advanced unusually rapidly and has already made onset over Gujarat on June 9th.
This is the earliest monsoon onset on record for large parts of the country.
“The northern limit of monsoon passes through Betul and Mandla districts of Madhya Pradesh. With this, monsoon reached parts of the State. Usually, the advent of monsoon takes place on June 17, however, this is for the first time in recent memory that it has hit the State seven days ahead,” Senior India Meteorological Department (IMD) meteorologist P K Saha said on June 10th.
