New analysis finds Cyclone Mangga was likely strongest cyclone to affect the west coast of Southwest WA since Cyclone Alby
New analysis from the ECMWF has found that Cyclone Mangga was likely the strongest cyclone to have affected the west coast of southwestern WA since at least Cyclone Alby by maximum daily wind speed contained within the box (110.7-115.2E, -31.9- -34.2N).
The maximum daily wind speeds were the strongest on record for May and in fact for any month in May 2020 with the dataset extending back to 1979.
However, the strongest winds were offshore and thus Perth escaped the worst.
